LAW ENFORCEMENT EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR AWARD |
HISTORY
The 2000 Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Law Enforcement
Executive of the Year Award is the first to be given to a local Chief
of Police, Sheriff or Superintendent of State Police. This award, which
will be given annually, recognizes the efforts of a law enforcement executive
and his/her department for their continuing support of the D.A.R.E.
Program, as well as for working with the community to promote a variety
of ongoing drug prevention and education initiatives. The Drug Enforcement
Administration (DEA) is working with D.A.R.E. to sponsor this award to
highlight the importance of law enforcement and prevention working together
to make our communities safe and drug-free.
ELIGIBILITY
Any law enforcement executive who department has a D.A.R.E. Program
and works with the community on a variety of prevention and education initiatives.
Nominations must be submitted for individuals only.
SELECTION OF CRITERIA
Nominations will be reviewed by a panel of judges from DEA and D.A.R.E. All nominees must be law enforcement executives, and their department must have an active D.A.R.E. Program. Please include highlights of the D.A.R.E. Program, as well as the number of years the individual has been involved with the D.A.R.E. Program. The finalist will be selected on his or her commitment and support of the D.A.R.E. Program, as well as other community-based prevention and education efforts such as:

Presentation of the D.A.R.E. Law Enforcement Executive of the Year Award
The Award will be presented by the Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration, during the National D.A.R.E. Officers Association (NDOA) annual conference, which will be held in Nashville, Tennessee, from July 5-9. Travel, lodging, and meals for the winner and his or her spouse will be provided by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Recipient Police Department’s D.A.R.E. Program will receive a $1,000 cash award to support their local program.
