The Neighborhood Associations of Michigan
(NAM), in cooperation with the Michigan Regional Community Policing
Institute (RCPI) at Michigan State University, is updating and
reproducing the Directory of Michigan Neighborhood Associations. The
NAM definition of a neighborhood association is:
“an organization established for the
purpose of improving the quality of life
-
in a defined
geographical area,
-
in which ALL
residents are eligible for membership, and
-
the leadership of
the organization is democratically elected.”
If this definition describes your organization and you would like to
have your organization included in the 2004 edition of the directory,
please click
here and complete the attached survey. Once completed it can be
faxed back to 517-432-0727, emailed to martini@msu.edu
or mailed to:
Neighborhood Associations of Michigan
c/o Michigan Regional Community Policing Institute. - Suite 343
1407 South Harrison Road
East Lansing, MI 48823
To insure that your organization’s information
is included in the 2004 Directory, NAM must have the survey information
returned to the RCPI by no later than October 31, 2004.
If your organization has already submitted
information, and you would like to verify its accuracy and/or
completeness of that information click
here.
The directory includes not only the names of
neighborhood organizations and contact persons, it also identifies the
organization’s program activities. This information makes it possible
for neighborhood organizations to identify and contact other
neighborhood organizations to get information about what they are doing
to avoid “re-inventing the wheel.” For example, if a neighborhood
organization in Kalamazoo was faced with a zoning issue, they could
check the directory to see what other organizations have zoning issue,
they could check the directory to see what other organizations have
zoning projects and contact them for information.
Should you have any questions or need
additional information regarding the survey, please do not hesitate to
contact NAM Secretariat, Maxie Jackson at 517-482-5761, or jacksonm@msu.edu.
