| COURSE DESCRIPTION: This training program
prepares public safety first responders to recognize the specialized
problems and hazards associated with clandestine laboratories.
Through a series of lectures and case studies, course participants
will learn to recognize the signs of a clandestine laboratory
and will also learn how methamphetamine is produced in these
labs. Participants will also become familiar with the unique
dangers associated with clandestine laboratories and actions
that should be taken (or not taken) at a suspected lab site.
Representatives from the Michigan State Police Methamphetamine
Investigative Unit will also be present to provide a current
overview of the methamphetamine problem in Michigan.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of
this training course, participants will be able to:
- List common chemicals and equipment found at clandestine
laboratory sites;
- Identify the common characteristics of methamphetamine
abuse;
- Recognize the signs of a clandestine laboratory;
- Understand the unique problem of children in methamphetamine
laboratories;
- Recognize hazards to personnel who respond to clandestine
laboratories; and
- Identify the most common methods of synthesizing methamphetamine.
