COMMUNITY SAFETY

The Michigan RCPI has addresses community safety from various vantage points and in partnership with stakeholders already working in that area.

Community Counter Terrorism Awareness Initiative
(Free online counter terrorism training information and quizzes)

Homeland Security – through Community Anti-Terrorism Awareness and Preparedness

  • Community Anti-Terrorism Awareness:  Train-the-Trainer workshop – designed to equip police officers to teach community members what to be aware of and how to report suspicious activity.
  • Enhancing the partnership between law enforcement to make all of our communities safer.
  • Increasing preparedness and reducing fear.

Crime Prevention – in Partnership with Crime Prevention Association of Michigan – Training and Technical Assistance

  • Basic Crime Prevention School – designed for new crime prevention officers.
  • Security Survey School – Teaches basics of conducting a security survey on residences and small business.
  • Bullyproofing: Building a Caring Community – Examines the prevalence of bullying and explores prevention ideas, programs and implementation strategies.

Building Community Capacity – in Partnership with Neighborhood Associations of Michigan (NAM)

  • Annual Conference for police and neighborhood leaders

School Safety – in Partnership with Michigan Safe Schools Initiative

  • School Risk Analysis Workshop – to strengthen the school-public safety partnership to create safe learning environments for Michigan school students and personnel.
  • School Resource/Liaison Officer Development – working with various stakeholders to provide appropriate training for officers working in Michigan schools.
  • Safe Schools Week – Raising awareness in teachers, students and parents.
