DNA EVIDENCE IDENTIFICATION, COLLECTION & PRESERVATION
Training for Law
Enforcement
On March 11, 2003, the White House announced President
George W. Bush’s Initiative to Advance Justice Through DNA
Technology. This large scale
initiative addressed six different
DNA issues, one of which was to develop training for law enforcement
and other
professionals in the criminal justice system.
The President recognized that training America’s law enforcement
officers in the collection and usage of DNA evidence would mean more
critical
pieces of evidence would be collected, fewer cases would be jeopardized
by the
mishandling of evidence, and more cases could be solved by the proper
use of
this technology.
A
team of trainers from the Michigan Regional Community
Policing Institute will be trained to deliver the one-day DNA
Evidence
Identification, Collection and Preservation Training curriculum in
Michigan. We anticipate the first
training session to be available to law enforcement in early Fall 2005. Watch for it on our Training Information Page.
